Earlier today, Microsoft released an ad-page for Yooka-Laylee, the colourful platformer from Playtonic. The page released a price of $39.99 (USD) and a release date of April 11th 2017. Previously the game was delayed from an October 2016 release date to a Q1 2017, while technically delayed again, we now have a solid release date for the game.
Playtonic did confirm that the page was legit, and that Yooka-Laylee is on track for the release date on PC, PS4, and Xbox One simultanously, however they have also confirmed that the Wii U version has been cancelled. The Wii U version was scrapped to move development for the game to the upcoming Nintendo Switch, no word on when or if the game will be coming to the new console at the moment.
Yooka-Laylee was developed by Playtonic, a group of ex-Rare employees who worked on Banjo-Kazooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day which Yooka-Laylee borrows heavily on. After a very successful Kickstarter, Team17 picked up the publishing rights and will distribute the game.
