It looks like we’ll be seeing the adventures of Geralt of Rivia on the big screen, as Studio Platige Films announced that it has joined with the Sean Daniel Company to bring a new film based on The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski to theatres.
Oscar nominee Tomasz Baginski (Katedra) is slated to direct, with Thania St. John (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) working on the script, although no castings has been announced as of yet. Platige started pre-production back in August, and hope to make it into a series.
The movie itself will follow Andrzej Sapkowski’s original short stories rather than the highly praised video game series from CD Projekt Red, which the author does not consider to be canonical.
This wouldn’t be the first time The Witcher series has been on the big screen, as a Poland exclusive movie called The Hexer seen some moderate success, even spinning off a short-lived TV series.
