The first television show developed by Activision Blizzard’s new Film and TV, Skylanders Academy, has been renewed for a third season for Netflix. The 3rd season is set to start production at TeamTO studio in France later this month.
“Activision Blizzard Studios celebrates the opportunity to bring another season of quality programming to families around the world,” said studio Co-President Nick van Dyk. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Netflix on this iconic franchise.”
The first season of Skylanders Academy was a surprise hit on Netflix, with audience both old and new to the series. “Response to the show has been incredibly enthusiastic and we’ve taken a lot of creative inspiration from fans’ excitement,” said studio Co-President Stacey Sher. “We have a lot of fun in store for season three and are thrilled to give audiences even more of the characters they love.”
Season 2 has yet to be released on Netflix however the studio has stated that Felicia Day will join the cast along with returning members including Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks and Norm Macdonald. The cast will also see the return of Susan Sarandon, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz.
Activision Blizzard Studios launched their new division last year to expand their games to other media. With Skylanders Academy being the first successful show out of their studio, past reports mentioned that the Call of Duty as well as Diablo may see the next jump in the near future.
