Western Press is a simple duelling game based in the American frontier, the game was developed by Bandit-1; a 3 person team from Melbourne, Australia and published by Surprise Attack Games, the game was released on Steam 21 Apr, 2016.
GamePlay, Graphics and Sounds
The gameplay for Western Press is super quick with duel’s lasting less than 5 seconds, the game is played 1v1, you and your opponent face each other and have to press a string of 10 random button on the side of the screen and whoever presses their 10 button faster wins duel. The game can be played with a keyboard or controller (much more solid experience). The game has a heavy incorporation of multiplayer, featuring an up to 16 player tournaments modes and that can include real players or bots.
The Graphical style of the game excellent, is very reminiscence of game on the NES or old DOS games. The game is very colourful, and has a lot of great details within the game world. In the graphics settings of the game there are many different option to choose to enhance the look of the game, which was nice to see because a lot of indie titles sometimes don’t give many options, one of my favourite names for some of the settings within the Advance video settings was the ELVIS settings!
The sound and music for western press is amazing, it embody’s a lot of elements from old western movies, but one of my absolute favourite aspects of the game is the narration, its top notch and entertaining, it was similar to the narration Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and all around that is what really made the game for me.
And there is trash talk before every duel, its great!
Final thought
This game is a very solid western game about duelling, and it just work. This game is special because it falls in a genre of games that you don’t get every day the last real western game that was released was Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and before that was Red Dead Redemption. Western Press does so many things right such as the graphics, solid game play, good replay value and the narration.
You can go check out the game on steam.
