With the next side-scrolling Mario Bros. Adventure coming to the Switch in October, Nintendo is looking to give us a closer look at what we can expect in this new trippy (trippier?) addition to the plumber’s library in a 15 minute Nintendo Direct on August 31st.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be a classical Mario Bros. 2D side-scroller that will send the Mushroom Kingdom heroes (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi and others) to a new destination: The Flower Kingdom. Of what we’ve seen so far from the announcement trailer, there will be new powers-ups including an item called the Wonder Flower which causes unpredictable, level-changing effects, and somehow least surprising, and item that turns Mario and pals into Elephants.

This will also be the first Super Mario game which will not feature the voice of Charles Martinet, who has provided many “It’s-a me” and “Wahoo!”‘s since Mario 64. Nintendo said that “a special video message” from Shigeru Miyamoto and Charles Martinet would be released, which will likely include more about Nintendo’s plans for Mario and Martinet new position with Nintendo as an “Mario ambassador.”

The Nintendo Direct Livestream will start at 10 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. PDT on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch Channels. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on Nintendo Switch on October 20th, 2023.
