One of the things about the Nintendo Switch that we keep forgetting about is that the Online Functionality will not be free forever, in fact Nintendo released new information yesterday detailing how the paid service will work for their console and surprisingly, it’s not as bad as we had imagined it.
Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch Online Membership Plan will now launch in 2018 and will have 3 subscriptions plans. 1 Month at $4, 3 Months for $8 and 12 Months for $20 (all prices in USD). This is a surprisingly low cost for the feature when compared to the Playstation Plus and Xbox Live Gold memberships, each can be up to $59.99 per year.
Nintendo also previously teased that subscribers will get access to NES and SNES titles with additional Online capabilities that will be refreshed every month. However that appears to have changed with the latest statement from Nintendo. “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play,” A Nintendo spokesperson told GameSpot when the question was raised. “Users can play as many of the games as they want, as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription.”
