River City: Tokyo Rumble was just the success that we needed to see a revival of one of our favourite beat’em ups as Natsume has announced that they’ll be bringing two new River City titles to the 3DS for this year, with both making an appearance at E3.
The first of these new titles is a spin-off of sorts, titled River City: Knights of Justice. This title will see the River City characters transform into heroes and villains that would fit perfectly with an RPG setting, using swords, staves, and even magic to bring peace back to “Riverandia”. According to Natsume, this will be a 3DS e-Shop exclusive and is set for a Summer release.
The next game is River City: Rival Showdown, and it sounds a bit more like a traditional River City game which will feature the main character beaten by a mysterious new figure, his girlfriend kidnapped and taking on street gangs to solve the mystery. Natsume has announced a Fall release window for this title.
“River City: Tokyo Rumble was a huge success, and these two follow-ups in the popular River City/Kunio-Kun franchise are the perfect continuation of the series,” said Hiro Maekawa, President & CEO of Natsume. “We are looking forward to showing the games for the first time at E3 and garnering feedback from gamers and the media!”
We really enjoyed River City: Tokyo Rumble and it’ll be great to see the series get a come back. What are your thoughts on the two new River City titles set for this year? Let us know in the comments.
