The team behind Star Trek Online has made good on their promise to set up a memorial for Leonard Nimoy who passed away last week. However Nimoy was not the only member of the original Star Trek series to have a memorial set up in their dedication to the Sci-Fi Universe.
Several worlds across the Star Trek Online game will feature a plaque featuring the names of Nimoy, James Doohan (Montgomery “Scotty” Scott), DeForrest Kelley (Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy), Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and his wife, Majel Barrett, who played the recurring role of Nurse/Dr. Christine Chapel, among others. The Plaque will be interactive displaying the actor’s dates of birth and death “and a personal quote where possible. “In this smal way, we hope to honor the memory and contribution of those who helped shape Star Trek into the cultural touchstone it is today,” said Stephen Ricossa, the executive producer of Star Trek Online.
Additionally 2 statues of Nimoy have been set up in the game, the first of which being on Vulcan which features Nimoy as his iconic character Spock, giving the Vulcan salute with “Live long and Prosper” engraved at the base. The second can be found on New Romulus which features the same statue but with a different inscription “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” The monument recognizes the in-game storyline that Vulcan-Romulan reunification by using the line made famous by Nimoy in 1982’s Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.
