The Olympics will be coming to Rio de Janeiro next year and that means that rivalry between Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario will be coming to Wii U and 3DS as well according to yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Micro presentation.
“Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games” will have Team Sonic and Team Mario compete in several different Olympic games soccer (or football), rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis and the 100-meter dash. Some games will be exclusive depending on the console, Wii U will see Rugby, which will make it’s Olympic debut at the Rio games, while the 3DS will get Golf which makes it’s return to the Olympics after 112 years absent from the games.
While no release date was given for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, if any past Mario & Sonic Olympics releases are any indications, we’ll see the game released just prior to the actual games. The Rio 2016 Olympics Games will start in August of next year.
