Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and it’s Free-to-Play Battle Royale mode Warzone has had some fun guest operators within the last couple of months. With their collaboration with Amazon Prime’s The Boys series, bringing Black Noir, Starlight and Homelander, as well as two packs that brought Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj to the battle. Season 5 will continue the trend by bringing us one of gaming’s most well known archeologists – Lara Croft.
The Tomb Raider Operator Bundle will be available on September 9th, and gives us Lara as a playable operator, along with her Mach-5 dual pistols, the Ice Axe Melee weapon, and the Mythic Defender SMG. The pack also comes with a finishing move called “Play for Sport,” a Tomb Raider-themed loading screen, a sticker, and an emblem.
A thing to note about Lara’s appearance is that the outfit is reminiscent of her original appearance on PlayStation with the classic teal top and shorts, but includes the Jade Pendant that was shown in the more recent Tomb Raider series (dubbed the Survivor trilogy, which includes 2013’s Tomb Raider, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.) The inclusion of the item has created some talk of this being the new look for the upcoming Tomb Raider game by Crystal Dynamics which was announced in 2022. Or it could be an elaborate Easter egg.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be confirming if this is the look for Lara her next upcoming game for a while, however, Amazon – who will be the game’s publisher – has confirmed that the game will be developed by Crystal Dynamics and will be a “single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues Lara Croft’s story in the Tomb Raider series.” Netflix has also confirmed a Tomb Raider animated series is in the works with Hayley Atwell voicing Lara.
