SNK had teased the possibility of bringing the King of Fighters series to other media for since the company was brought out by Chinese investors back in 2015 (thankfully this initiative does not include the horrible King of Fighter film released back in 2010). Now it appears that we’re going to see how well this effort is going to pay off with the first CG Animated TV series based on the popular fighting game.
King of Fighters: Destiny is set to release in China this summer with a Japanese release likely to follow after. The trailer seems to highlight events from the Orochi Saga (which ran from KOF 95-97) and part of Fatal Fury’s main storyline involving Geese Howard and the Bogard Brothers. Other characters announced includes Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon, Joe Higashi, Ryo Sakazaki, Robert Garcia, and Yuri Sakazaki.
The series is set to release 20 episodes currently and is being handled by the team behind Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. No word on who will receive broadcasting rights at this moment.
