Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is going to be a major game to watch not only to see if the game is going to good, but to see how the game will actually affect game development. Labelled as an “indie-AAA” title, Developer Ninja Theory has repeatedly advised that the game was developed with half the time, staff and budget of a triple A title.
Ninja Theory is best known for their work on DmC: Devil May Cry, the criminally underrated Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and the PS3 launch title; Heavenly Sword. While the upcoming Hellblade already give off a feeling of their other projects (which we think is a great thing) it also tries to deviate itself by focusing on a fairly unreliable narrator of Senua, who suffers from a mental disease that makes her see and hear things that are not there.
A lot of work has gone into the visual style and to help express that, Ninja Theory added a Photo Mode system into the game. Like in other games that feature this mode such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, and Infamous Second Son, players will be able to pause and freely move around with the camera to find their perfect shot, then add various filters and adjustments.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which is set to release on PS4 and PC via Steam and GOG on August 8th, check out the latest trailer for the game above!
