If the news that Halo 5: Guardians won’t need a Xbox Live Gold subscription to play co-op sounded too good to be true, that’s probably because it was.
“I misspoke during the [Game Informer] interview when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account,” Josh Holmes, 343 executive producer, said in this blog post on HaloWaypoint.com. “Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play.”
Holmes did apologize for the misinformation adding that “it is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians.”
I’ll admit, I am a little disappointed in the news, but only because the would have made up for the lack of offline couch co-op. Of course, we will be hearing more about Halo 5: Guardians during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference on June 15th.
