Frictional Games is probably best known for the PC horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which rejuvenated the Survival Horror genre by doing a simple thing; having you completely defenceless against monsters, forcing you to run and hide in order to survive. While it wasn’t the first time shown in a horror game, it was the best example of it being done right, and inspired several other horror games in the meantime.
The developers latest title will once again borrow this mechanic for SOMA, a Survival Horror game set in an underwater research facility where Machines are taking on human traits. The protagonist will have to solve puzzles, run and hide in order to make his escape from a nightmarish situation.
The game is set to release on PC and PS4 on September 22nd, and to celebrate the announcement the team had released a 12 minute uncensored gameplay footage. All we can say after watching this is that the game will likely be a big hit on Youtube like it’s predecessor.
