Forager is an idle game created by HopFrog and published by Humble Bundle.
The game is a 2D gather and build. The goal is to buy all lands, beat all dungeons and collect all items. Game play is simplistic, click to mine and movement is pretty smooth.
You start on an island in the middle of the map with your first quest being to build a furnace. Once your furnace is built then your next step is building a forge. That is the last you have of quests without meeting other characters.
After you have settled into the groove of gathering resources and building different items, you will find you need more room. So you expand. You buy your first island and get more resources unlocked and possibly animals and enemies. One of the best tips I can give, do not eat your berries, but use them in fish traps instead. Berry bushes may not re-spawn fast enough whereas the fish traps are consistent. You will need the food in order to keep your energy up.
Other than mining, building, and fighting, there are puzzles that you will need to solve in order to get different costumes or even perks. There are several different perks that range from gaining more experience points per gain to regenerating health and energy.
There is a leveling system as well to make it easier to manage gathering resources and unlocking different buildings. Each level allows you to pick one skill in the four different trees. You have industry, economy, magic, and foraging. In each tree there are bonuses that will make the game easier to obtain more resources or faster manufacturing. Two skills I highly recommend are mining rods and logistics. Mining rods are found in the industry tree and logistics is found in the economy tree. The mining rod allows collection of resources automatically meaning you do not have to spend much time gathering more resources. Logistics makes the radius of the mining rod big enough to cover an entire island.
The music is good, relaxing and cheerful. Once you reach further into the game, the sounds become persistent and distracting.
Overall, I found the game to be quite enjoyable. I have started a couple new games and just played for hours.
At this time the developer is still deciding what to do for the end game.
