What a night it has been, not only did EA and Ubisoft had a great showing (who reports are on the way.) Sony has stepped up it’s game and given us a show that left people on their feet. What exactly did that? Well lets do a quick recap shall we.
The show opened with a glimpse of the upcoming PS3 titles hitting stores within the year, including a new trailer for The Last of Us (which comes out this week.) The Puppeteer, Rain, Gran Tursimo 6, and Beyond: Two Souls which is looking much more action packed then we first imagined it to be while show casing Ellen Page and Willem Dalfoe’s role in the game.
Two other big multiplatform title were announced to have special DLC and bundles, first of which was Batman Arkham Origins which will receive a Nightfall DLC pack and a retro Adam West Batman costume. The other was a $300 Grand Theft Auto 5 PS3 that comes with Sony Headphones, a year subscription of Plus and a 500GB hard drive. Both of these will be available at launch for the games.
Then it was the moment we’ve been waiting for as we got the first glimpse of the PS4. From that point it was all about the features that were coming with it. Netflix, Crackle, Music and Video Unlimited being just some of the few apps that were quickly mentioned. Playstation Plus will be still active for the new console and will work among the PS3, PS4 and PSVita for the same price for use of all the systems.
Quick updates on the games we saw back in February were given with new trailers for Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, and Drive Club. With the announcement that Second Son will be available in Quarter 1 2014.
A new title from Ready At Dawn, the makers of the portable God of War titles, called The Order 1886 was announced with a trailer. Looked to be a steam punk style shooter where you fight monsters with cool weapons like a Tesla cannon and a Molotov Cocktail grenade launcher. No actual gameplay or release date for the title yet.
The team behind Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain showed off another title as well, however at this point we do not know if it is a graphical demo or a game. The movie was show as The Dark Sorcerer and featured a very well done cutscene in was played out like it was being done like a movie. There really is no words on how to describe this so I recommend checking out the video.
From here, Sony started being a bit evil, by showing Microsoft a big mistake that they made with Indie title being unable to self publish. Sony brought out SuperGiant Games (the creators of the stellar PC and XBLA ‘Bastion’) to show off Transitor, which will be exclusive to the PS4 for consoles coming in 2014.
Then a slew of amazing Indie development titles were announced for the PS4 with their company joining the Playstation Family including Klei Entertainment (the makers of Shank) who will be bringing Don’t Starve to the PS4, Tribute games (team behind Scott Pilgrim Vs the World) with Mercenary Kings, Switchblade Monkeys with Secret Ponchos, and Oddworld Inhabitants with a full HD remake of their original game that was released on the PS1, there were more but the presentation was going extremely fast through these groups.
All of the games shown in this section though were absolutely amazing.
Two quick mentions were made, including the fact that Diablo 3 will have exclusive content items for the PS3 and PS4 including items from Uncharted and Journey, also Elder Scrolls Online will be coming to consoles on the PS4 which was the second MMO game to be announced for consoles through the day, the first at Ubisoft with Tom Clancy’s The Division but there will be more on that later.
Then the big bomb drop, a new trailer featuring gameplay for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the first of it’s kind since the game’s announcement back during the PS3’s Launch. The title has had multiple problems throughout development, in fact they had enough issues that they decided a name change would be appropriate. Versus XIII will now be Final Fantasy XV and will release on the PS4.
But that wasn’t all Square had for us.
Soon Square Enix and Disney logos appeared on the screen with the confirmation that Kingdom Hearts III is currently in Development.
Another new game had been announced for the PS4 from Avalanche studios, the team behind the Just Cause games. Surprisingly this was a movie game title based on the popular Mad Max franchise (for those of you unaware of the movies, I feel really sorry for you.) The CG trailer did look very impressive, but no gameplay was actually released for the title.
It all came down to this, the lights dimmed and they brought the head of Sony Entertainment America to take the stage. The big confirmation to all our questions for Sony thanks to Microsoft’s Licensing policy was announced. We can now confirm this as truth.
The Playstation 4 will allow you to Play Used Games without restrictions.
The Playstation 4 Does NOT need to connect to the internet to allow you to play your games.
The Playstation 4 Does NOT have a restriction on Lending out your games.
Playstaton Plus will be needed to play games online, however we will still be getting free content EVERY WEEK including Drive Club for the first year of Playstaton 4 owners with Indie titles Don’t Starve, Outlast and Secret Ponchos leading the charge.
As you can imagine there were people on their feet in a happy uproar on this information, but they all lost their minds when Sony announced that the console will be available this Holiday season at a retail price of $399 US.
E3 is still up and running with a Nintendo Direct conference, which we will cover on the Podcast, what does Nintendo have to reveal? Stay tuned to find out.
