In celebration of the game that had started it all, the original Diablo which was released 20 years ago will be remade in Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. Announced yesterday at Blizzcon 2016 opening ceremonies, the content called “The Darkening of Tristram” which will “send you back into the depths of the Cathedral,” said Frank Pearce, Blizzard’s chief development officer.
The Darkening of Tristram will feature the original’s 16 levels and pit you against the 4 main bosses, the content will also come with a new pixelated filter to make the game look like the original. To keep the nostalgia train rolling, players will also be locked to 8 directions, like the original game.
The content will also come with some exclusive items for Diablo 3, including portraits, sigils, banners and pets, as well as Diablo 3’s first helmet slot legendary gem, the Soulstone from Diablo. Players will also get a chance to unlock new transmogrifications, including a throwback cleaver based on the original Butcher and Wirt’s leg.
The content will be a free add-on to everyone who has Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls on PC, PS4, and Xbox One later this year, however PC Players can get in early with Blizzard’s Public Test Realm next week.
