Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been dominating in the Box Offices this week in Europe and North America, but in Japan there is a very different story. You see, while we count a movie’s success by the amount that it earned by on Ticket Sales, Japan counts by the actual amount of tickets sold.
The Force Awakens may be the top movie here, but in Japan it was beaten out by the animated movie – “Yo-Kai Watch The Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!” – of course the second movie from the hit game/anime series that has been taking Japan by storm in levels that was only previously seen for Pokemon. Yo-Kai Watch 2 sold around 975,000 tickets between Saturday and Sunday, however Star Wars only hit 800,000 tickets during that time.
The first Yo-Kai Watch game launched in 2013 and was developed by Ni no Kuni and Dark Cloud developer Level-5. North America finally received the game earlier this year in November, with the animated series launching on Disney XD.
