Yakuza Kiwami was the perfect oppertunity for those who missed out on the PS2 classic to get a great upgrade for the series. Now Sega has announced that the second Yakuza title, which originally was released in 2006, will be getting the same remastered treatment in Yakuza Kiwami 2.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will take the beloved Yakuza 2, and give it the upgrade it deserves thanks to the new Dragon Engine, which was used to power the upcoming Yakuza 6 (a game we gave 9/10 in our review). Similar to the first Kiwami remake, Kiwami 2 will feature fully remade visuals of its characters and environments, as well as fully re-recorded voice lines, and seamless transitions between fights or entering/exiting buildings.
There are some new mini-games coming to Kiwami 2, including the original arcade version of Virtual-On, Golf Bingo, and the return of Yakuza 0’s Cabaret club. Yakuza 6’s Clan Creator will also make a return, and for the first time players will also get to play with Sega’s infamous Toylets… Which if you haven’t guessed was a urinal with various games to play with your pee.
If the new mini-games don’t entice you to return to Yakuza 2, then a new storyline involving Goro Majima, the fan favourite Mad Dog of Shimano will sure to do it. The Majima-centric campaign will highlight his personal journey from the end of Kiwami to the events of Kiwami 2.
The wait for Yakuza Kiwami 2 won’t be long as Sega announced the Western release for August 28th 2018.
