In a unpresidented 3 company team up between Sparks Unlimited (Lost Planet 3), Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series) and Comcept (Soul Sacrifice and the upcoming Mighty No.9) are all currently set to releas Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC via Steam on March 4th 2014 in the US, while Europe will see it’s release on February 28th 2014.
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is centered around Yaiba Kamikaze, a ninja who slaughtered his entire clan for their weakness. After losing in a duel between him and Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, he is resurrected as a cyborg by an mysterious corporation who wishes to use him to cover up a Zombie outbreak in exchange for power to exact revenge on Hayabusa.
Team Ninja stated that the game is an Unreal 3 Engine hack’n’slash title and is set as it’s own story, and not a spin-off or a sequel to Ninja Gaiden (Editors note: We’re going to assume that Team Ninja doesn’t actually know the meaning of Spin-off.) They also stated that they would love to work on a sequel, providing that Yaiba finds an audience.
