When you think of psychological and twisted horror, only two names should really come to mind – H.P. Lovecraft and Junji Ito (if you’re unfamiliar with their work, I recommend watching this video from Youtuber Super EyePatch Wolf.) Their work is generally unnerving, feature grotesque creatures and have a strong theme of losing sanity behind their work. Luckily, a new retro horror RPG from Panstasz and indie publisher Ysbryd Games – World of Horror – knows to borrow from the two authors for what looks to be an interesting horror experience.
Set in a small seaside town in Japan, World of Horror follows 5 playable characters, each with their own story and a different perspective on the events that are unfolding, as the town’s population begin to lose their grip on their sanity and grotesque creatures begin attack. Players will be able to navigate a roguelike reality with unforgiving choices and turn-based combat.
“I set out to create something that illustrates just how vulnerable one’s sanity can be,” said Pawel Kozminski, founder of Panstasz. “I want WORLD OF HORROR to haunt players in a way that creates an uncomfortable sense of apprehension, something that slowly builds uneasiness and anxiety through atmosphere and the uncanny.”
World of Horror is set to com to the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC in 2019.
