We’ve sunk a lot of time with Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and have yet to actually beat it. So the news of Witcher 3’s upcoming paid expansions adding over an additional 30 hours, or as game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz stated in an interview, “Almost the size of Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings.” It’s a bit overwhelming.
In an interview with GameReactor; Tomaszkiewicz explained the timing comes from the new elements to the game. “The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you’ve got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more.”
The first of the two expansions, Heart of Stone, is stated to take about 10 hours and is due later this fall. The second expansion, Blood and Wine, will be available in 2016 and offer 20 additional hours. However it is likely that these will be bigger.
“It’s possible that they will be bigger, because it’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right now,” Tomaszkiewicz said. “And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool; it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy.”
Both expansions are available in the game’s season pass, which is priced at $25. Since the game’s launch, CD Projekt Red has been delivering Free DLC on a weekly basis, providing additional armour, Gwent cards, costumes, hunts and quests.
