Compulsion’s twisted Survival game – We Happy Few – have been in early access for some time but now we have a launch date for the full release and a newly announced PS4 version thanks to Gearbox Publishing.
Gearbox has announced that We Happy Few will be released both digitally and at retail for Xbox One, PS4 and PC (digitally only) on April 13th 2018. At launch, the team will deliver more content than ever with a full-length campaign featuring three playable characters, 250 unique encounters and a much grander vision of the game.
We Happy Few has been available via Early Access and Game Preview Program on Xbox One for some time now, where players got to test out the game’s procedurally generated world, collect and craft items and interact with the Joy-obsessed society of Wellington Wells with Stealth, combat and conformity. When the game launches Compulsion has stated that the new campaign will bring all these pieces together with the three protagonists who will have their own reasons for giving up the artificial happiness. The characters will each have their own strengths as well as a dark secret to unravel as they attempt to survive their time in Wellinton Wells.
“Our team was humbled by the initial public reception to We Happy Few, and delighted to have this chance to make it bigger. We’re longtime fans of Borderlands, and we’re excited to be part of a line-up that also includes games like Homeworld and Fortnite. Gearbox believed in us from the very beginning, and we think this partnership will make it possible to create the game that our community expects,” said Guillaume Provost, Studio Head of Compulsion Games
“Compulsion Games has an amazing game vision and it’s an honour for Gearbox Publishing to contribute to the effort,” said Steve Gibson, Head of Gearbox Publishing.
For those who purchased the Early Access and Game Preview versions of the game, the final major update to the game has been released called “Life in Technicolour” which will bring new effects to Joy, improved user interface, reworked AI and more. As an added bonus, everyone who purchased the Early version of the game will get the full release at no extra cost.
