Compulsion Game’s psychological survival horror game ‘We Happy Few’ captivated early access players with its unique concept of an Alternate 1960’s England where people where un-nerving masks and take a required drug to bring happiness.
Apparently this is the perfect material for DJ2 Entertainment and Gold Circle Films who approached Compulsion with an idea for a movie based on the game. “Dmitri, Stephan and Dan approached us enthusiastically and with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film, while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes. We’re gratified at how they and Gold Circle have taken to the project.” Said Guillaume Provost, head of the game’s developer at Compulsion Games.
For many gamers, their first taste of We Happy Few’s twisted story came from a very powerful E3 trailer showing off the first moments of the game, showing what the psychological effects of the Happiness inducing drug was doing to characters in the world. Which had characters dragged away for being downers (people who stopped taking their pills) and happily committing violent acts.
Gold Circle Films and DJ2 Entertainment are currently looking for writers for the project as the film is in very early stages.
