With DONTNOD’s Action-RPG Vampyr releasing next week, the team have recently released almost a full hour of the game in action to give players a taste of what to expect when diving into the game.
The footage is from a developer stream where they answered direct questions from the community. The gameplay itself is from 6 hours into the story and shows off several of Vampyr’s systems that makes the game unique including its citizen and district ecosystem. In Vampyr, players have the ability to kill or spare any of London’s Citizens, using their blood to evolve your powers, or heal them as a Doctor (as your character was before turning) by conducting examinations and crafting medicines. Curing illness will improve the quality of life for the citizen and district as a whole, and offers players tastier blood to improve their powers.
However will also have to focus on keeping districts from being lost, as each of the four main districts will have their own health status gauge, which can be affected by the number of dead, sick and healthy citizens in the area. As the gauge drops, shop prices will increase, citizens are more likely to get sick and life will deteriorate.
If a district becomes lost, it will be gone forever! All shops, citizens side quest and regular inhabitants in that district will then turn into deadly enemies. While this won’t mean a game over as players can still beat Vampyr’s main storyline, however according to DONTNOD – “though their recklessness will reward them with the ending they deserve.”
Vampyr is out on June 5th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. DONTNOD plans to have another dev stream on Twitch on June 4th.
