Rob McElhenney, best known for as the creator and star of the FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” will be taking on the task of bringing Minecraft to the big screen. The announcement was released directly from Minecraft developers Mojang on their official Blog.
Not much more is known about the movie at this time, aside from Warner Bros. will be producing the film and that McElhenney will be taking over the directorial reigns from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel) who left the project last year after his approach to the adaptation was shot down. Taking to Twitter, Rob McElhenney tweeted that he wanted to do something strange and wonderful with the franchise.
As fans of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” we can’t even begin to imagine what a Minecraft movie under McElhenney direction will look like, but that will probably be a good thing. We’ll keep you updated on the movie’s development as it’s released.
