To say that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has had a rough development is sort of an understatement at this point. A First-Person RPG based on the World of Darkness tabletop game, and the sequel to the cult classic 2004 PC game which saw it’s own developmental problems, Bloodlines 2 now has a new developer and a release window of Fall 2024.
Now being developed by The Chinese Room, a U.K. Studio best known for its atmospheric exploration games such as Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther. The game is still set to take place in modern-day Seattle where a power vacuum in the vampire court has split into factions.
In an interview with PC Gamer, creative director Alex Skidmore underlined that Bloodlines 2 is using “a new code base with different gameplay mechanics and RPG systems” to the previous version, which was being made by Seattle developer Hardsuit Labs. Other changes confirmed is that you will no longer be a young vampire but rather a powerful Elder awoken from a long slumber.“ You have enough that you can fill in the character a bit as you go and roleplay, but they’re also an established thing that you understand as aspirational,” Skidmore explained.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was originally announced by Paradox in 2019 for a 202 release date, however the game was place on indefinite hiatus after Paradox parted ways with Hardsuit Labs.
