Some bad news for the Brony fanbase, as indie developer/non-profit team Mane6, the team responsible for the upcoming non-profit game Fighting is Magic based off of the latest incarnation of My Little Pony had received a cease and desist order by Hasbro. As a result all Fighting is Magic related material has been taken down from Mane6’s official YouTube channel and other online media portals.
“We have attempted negotiating with Hasbro for the continued use of the property in our non-profit, voluntary project, but so far we haven’t received an answer,” the update on Mane6’s official blog reads. “As such, we’re complying with the contents of the C&D letter until we receive answer from their PR and/or Legal departments.”
Lauren Faust, who developed the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, tweeted that she “sympathize and share the disappointment.” Later tweeting to Mane6’s twitter account that she was willing to give them new original characters to make a game with. However there has been no reply as of it.
Previously, Fighting is Magic was a contender to be one of the EVO 2013 Championship series with it’s community raising $5,280 during the tournament’s breast cancer research charity drive competition, landing it in 4th place in the competition. Brony or not, the game looked to be a lot of fun and a high quality fighter, you can see some of the gameplay in the trailer below. Here’s hoping that the Mane6 team can bounce back from this set back, by either working though Hasbro or with Lauren on a new project.
