It looks like the rumours were true, as Ubisoft announced yesterday that there will not be a new main Assassin’s Creed title releasing this year. According to the announcement from Ubisoft, the development team will be “stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise.”
“We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise,” the company stated. “We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.”
That doesn’t mean that you can’t get your 2016 Assassin’s Creed fix, as Ubisoft has released all three chapters of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles, a 2.5D adventure platformer, and you can also look forward to the Assassin’s Creed Movie staring Michael Fassbender which is set to release on Dec 21st.
Ubisoft still have a strong 2016 line-up on it’s way, as the company is set to publish South Park: Fractured But Whole, and the upcoming Tom Clancy MMO-esque shooter, The Division.
