Good news for streamers Twitch streamers as the streaming service will start cracking down on bot-providing services. The action was announced today via a blog post by Matthew DiPietro, Twitch’s senior vice president for marketing, which mentioned several lawsuits in place against multiple Paid Bot services.

For those who are unaware, bot services are used to provide a certain number of bots to “artificially inflate the apparent view count, follower count, and chat activity on a Twitch channel.” This is done in the hope of placing the streamer higher in the streaming list and become partner faster, sort of a fast track to success system. Of course some Bot systems can also be used as a negative effect, where the bots would go in and harass users

“We at Twitch are well aware that view-bots follow-bots and chat-impersonation bots are a persistent frustration,” said DiPietro in the post. “Exploited by a small minority, these services have created a very real problem that has damaging effects across our entire community.”

In the post, DiPietro also mentions three steps that the company is taking to prevent bots from affecting the services, which includes regular maintenance to the server, Twitch’s support team handling bots on a case by case basis, and finally, taking public legal action against Bot providers.

The legal document (found here) states that the sellers are responsible for trademark Infringement, unfair competition, cybersquatting, computer fraud and abuse, breach of contract, tortious interference with contract, and fraud; against seven Bot providers.

So what does this mean for the regular Twitch viewer? The most important thing is that this will give people a more even playing field as people won’t be profiting from artificial views and followers, putting it on the talent and personality of the streamer to gain this.

Of course it is difficult to make it big in any streaming services like Youtube and Twitch, however there are resources available, through Social Media groups, friends and more, that won’t cost you anything or ruin your integrity.
