The Nintendo and Atlus team up formerly known as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, now called by it’s equally long title “Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE”, is finally coming stateside on June 24th. Since Nintendo is in charge of publishing the title, it was naturally assumed that they will also be handling the localization as well.
However this isn’t the case as Game Informer inquired about the game to Nintendo and they have handed the localization tasks to Atlus directly.
“Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was localized by Atlus in a way that is consistent with the localization work they do on games they publish,” reads a statement from Nintendo of America. “It was a priority to ensure the game feels familiar and appeals to longtime Atlus fans. Any changes made to the in-game content were due to varying requirements and regulations in the many different territories Nintendo distributes its products.”
With Nintendo receiving heat due to the recent localizations of Fire Emblem Fates and Xenoblade Chronicles X, handing the localization to the team at Atlus USA could be a positive outcome for the game.
