The final chapter for THQ happened yesterday as they sold their studios and IP. Several companies pitched their prices for specific studios and IPs to lower THQ’s debt, after the smoke settled and the court approved the buy offs, THQ is no more. While most studios will be brought over to new companies, THQ still has a lot of assets left including Vigil games and the Darksiders IP, which will “remain part of the chapter 11 case,” and THQ will look for buyers as part of a separate sale. According to a letter sent to employees, “If you are an employee of an entity that is not included in the sale, we regret that your position will end.”
Sega was reported to purchase Relic Studios, the team behind Company of Heroes and the Warhammer 40K series for 26.6 million while Deep Silver grabbed the Metro IP including Metro: Last Light, and Volition with the Saints Row IP for an estimated total of 28 million. Take-Two grabbed the WWE License for an undisclosed amount, but took a new IP from the Turtle Rock Team called Metamorphosis for $10.8 million. Ubisoft grabbed THQ Montreal and it’s IPs, as well as the publishing rights to South Park: The Stick of Truth, which is still stated for a 2013 release. Finally, THQ’s Homefront IP was brought by Crytek for $544,218.
While Vigil and the Darksiders IP was not included in the sale, there may be hope for the series to ride again as Platinum games is looking at the IP and is willing to pick it up if the price is right. You can see the full list of bids and winners after the jump.
