CD Projekt Red has been teasing the return of Geralt of Rivia for the past couple of weeks in a cross-over event. While many gamers were quick to point out this year’s anticipated return of our favourite weapon based fighter, SoulCalibur 6, last week we were given official confirmation that Geralt will be bringing his steel and silver to the series.
“SOULCALIBUR is well known in the fighting games genre for including iconic guest characters. When we were approached with the idea of doing a crossover, we thought our community would really enjoy playing as the witcher,” said Marcin Momot, Community Lead at CD PROJEKT RED. “We’ve collaborated with BANDAI NAMCO artists to faithfully recreate Geralt, and shared original Witcher 3 assets like Geralt’s model, animations, and weapons. I think BANDAI NAMCO did an outstanding job of capturing all the details and introducing The Witcher to SOULCALIBUR in a way fans of both series will enjoy.”
“All SOULCALIBUR characters have strong convictions and complex backgrounds and this is why it is a great honor for the whole SOULCALIBUR team to welcome Geralt as the guest character in SOULCALIBUR VI.” Said SOULCALIBUR producer, Motohiro Okubo. “Thanks to the great cooperation with CD PROJEKT RED, we’ve been able to fully integrate Geralt’s fighting style and appearance. We can’t wait for SOULCALIBUR fans around the world to welcome Geralt to the stage of History.”
For those who don’t know Geralt of Rivia (seriously go play The Witcher 3 – it is absolutely amazing!) Geralt is considered one of the deadliest monster slayers in the game’s universe. Trained at the elite School of the Wolf and possessing superhuman reflexes and strength, as well as deadly sword skills. He is one of the few times that the SoulCalibur series has picked someone who seems like they would have actually fit in to the series.
In SoulCalibur 6, Geralt will be using his iconic swordplay, along with a combination of his ability-enhancing potions, and combat magic. Geralt’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, will also return to reprise the role. Players will also reconize Kaer Morhen, home keep of the School of the Wolf as a new playable arena with the iconic “Hunt or be Hunted” composition from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as the background music.
Bandai Namco has partially revealed some returning faces to SoulCalibur 6 including Nightmare, Kilik, Ivy, Mitsurugi, Sophitia and more. No release date has been given for the game, however it is planned for a 2018 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
