At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Naughty Dog announced that its anticipated survival horror game, The Last of Us Part 2, would be delayed to later in the year. Originally set to release on May 29th, 2020, the delay was for multiple reasons with one of the main reasons was that the pandemic had caused production issues.
Yesterday, Hermen Hulst, head of worldwide studios at SIE, announced that they were seeing an “ease in the global distribution environment,” and announced that The Last of Us Part 2 would be seeing a new June 19th, 2020 release date. However, this also pushed back the release of Sucker Punch’s latest title – Ghosts of Tsushima – which is now set to be released on July 17th, 2020.
This new release date comes a day after a large leak of information about The Last of Us Part 2 was released, which included story spoilers and playthroughs of internal builds. It was said that the leaks were from a former disgruntled worker, however, this has yet to be confirmed. We will update the story when we learn more. While Naughty Dog has this to say about the leaks:
“We’re disappointed that anyone would release unauthorized pre-launch footage of The Last of Us Part II, disrupt years of Naughty Dog’s hard work and ruin the experience for fans worldwide. We want everyone to have the opportunity to play The Last of Us Part II at the same time and ask that viewing or sharing of the unauthorized footage be avoided”
