Now that The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Among Us have wrapped and been put on disk for everyone to enjoy, it’s time we hear more about Telltale’s next episodic epic based on George R.R. Martins fantasy novels and hit HBO show, A Game of Thrones.
Recently Telltale announced that the game will be 6 episodes long, with the first episode titled “Iron from Ice” coming soon. The game itself will follow 5 playable members of House Forrester, either direct family or servants of the house, and take place near the end of Season 3 and end before the beginning of Season 5 of the HBO show.
Telltale wrote the reason for the additional characters on their blog post stating the news
Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that the player needs to be mindful of. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you’re truly playing the Game of Thrones…where you win, or you die.
Fans will be able to visit key locations from the series including The Wall and King’s Landing, the game will also introduce fans to Ironrath, the home of House Forrester. The blog post described Ironrath as “an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood.” The post continues.
“Ironrath sits on the edge of the largest ironwood forest in Westeros, which has proven to be a strategic advantage for the House. The trees are a valuable commodity; many of the best weapons, ships, and defensive structures include the use of ironwood. House Forrester controls the majority of the ironwood forests in the Wolfswood, much to the chagrin of their bitter rivals, House Whitehill.
While House Forrester has not appeared in the HBO series, they are cannon to the novels as they were introduced in the book “A Dance with Dragons.”
Telltale’s Game of Thrones first episode “Iron From Ice” is currently set to be launched later this year on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and iOS. Other platforms will be announced later.
