It was 5 years ago to this month that Capcom and Namco announced 2 cross over fighters between the Street Fighter and Tekken series. The first one created by Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken, received mixed reviews thanks to fans who found that all the DLC content was locked behind a paywall on disc. The second one developed by Bandai Namco, Tekken X Street Fighter, has been stuck in development ever since.
So is the game cancelled? According to Katsuhiro Harada in an interview with Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera,) the short answer is no.
It might seem like we haven’t started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago. And we’ve already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems.
So it seems like they’re far into development on the cross-over, making it possible that the game could be release sometime soon in the near future. Unfortunately, Harada didn’t say why the game was hit with such a long delay. Some theories/guesses pointed the blame at some other upcoming Bandai Namco games like Tekken 7 and Pokken Tournament, while others pointed at lack of interest after the issues with Capcom’s fighter.
Why do you think is the reason for the delay, let us know in the comments.
