During a livestream event, Team Ninja announced that they were ending support for Dead or Alive 5 and potentially the series overall for the time being. The developers announced that they were stepping away from the franchise in order to make something new.
“Dead or Alive 5 has finally come to an end, but the Dead or Alive team is very active,” the developer explained. “It is time to stop what we are doing for now and look into the future.”
Although don’t expect to hear from Team Ninja “for some time” as the developer stated that they will be taking time to nail down what they will be doing next.
The Dead or Alive series has been around since 1996, with the last core installment – Dead or Alive 5: Last Round – was released in 2015. The developers had continued to provide support for the game with new costumes, characters and stages.
Considering that the Dead or Alive series has such a large following, it’s doubtful that the series will just die, but it’ll be interesting to see what exactly Team Ninja will deliver next.
