Take-Two’s all-new publishing label that is focused on producing indie games has some exciting games in the pipeline including Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey from Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Desilets, and Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. However one of their more promising titles from Battlefield 3 designer and Payday 2 director David Goldfarb will no longer be published by the label.
The game in question, Darkborn, was revealed in April and will now be moving ahead with a different publisher. Private Division confirmed that they ended its publishing arrangement with the studio – The Outsiders – in 2018 in a note to Gamespot.
“Private Division ended our publishing agreement with The Outsiders at the end of last year,” reads a line from Private Division’s statement. “We supported the studio financially for several months after ending the deal, and we wish David Goldfarb and the rest of the talented team the very best with the game and their future endeavors.”
There is no confirmation on the reason why Private Division and The Outsiders split, or what financial considerations might have been in place related to the separation. Private Division has declined to share more into the matter and The Outsiders CEO Anders Pettersson told Gamespot that they plan to share more details “after the summer.”
Darkborn is an interesting take on the Dark Fantasy genre which sees you as the titicular monster who has to attempt to survive being hunted down by a faction called “The Pale Enemy” who torture Darkborn and preform blood rituals with their corpses. “Be the monster in Darkborn. Experience life on the other side of the sword,” reads the game’s official description.
Private Division other publishing arrangements appear to still be in place. Developers V1 Interactive head by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto will be presenting Disintegration at Gamescom in August, while Private Division will continue to publish The Outer Worlds despite the studio being purchased by Microsoft.
