Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 won’t be the only big game for Take Two to release during the upcoming 2019 fiscal year, which runs from April 2018 through March 2019.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that “a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises” is due out in fiscal 2019. Unfortunately he left our the what, when and where details of the announcement leaving many to speculate on what which major 2K franchise Zelnick was talking about.
The most common speculation would be Borderlands 3 as Gearbox has already stated that they are working on the title, however with Gearbox trying their hand at publishing (recently releasing Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition) if the title would still be considered a Take-Two property. Take-Two cleared the air about the property stating that the Borderlands franchise still falls in the 2K games umbrella. Thus keeping the game in the rumour mill. Other major franchise speculations included the possibility of a new Bioshock, Mafia or a very unlikely second attempt at Battleborn.
In regards to its confirmed 2019 fiscal year game, Red Dead Redemption 2, Take-Two had very little to share. With the game set for a Spring 2018 release but set in fiscal year 2019, it’s likely the release date will not be before April 1st, 2018. Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally set to launch this fall before being delayed, which has even allowed companies such as Ubisoft and EA publicly state that its delay was a good thing.
