Trion Worlds and Syfy’s MMO Shooter Defiance will be moving to a Free to Play platform for PC on June 4, and Mid-July for PS4 and Xbox 360. Players will be able to download the Defiance client and experience the entire Bay Area storyline, original end-game content, and future missions completely for free.
To players who originally purchased Defiance will receive a handful of bonuses for being an early adopter of the game, including more character slots, loadouts, ark keycode capacity, and inventory slots than free-to-play accounts. Other bonuses include:
- Boosts to skill, XP, scrip, salvage, and reputation gain rates that stack with boosts available in the store.
- 10% store-wide discount on boosts, costumes, lock boxes – all of it!
- A daily grab bag of two-hour boosts.
- Arkforge from Daily and Weekly Ark Hunter Bonus Lock Boxes. (Playing on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? Be sure to link your account to get this bonus!)
Additionally, there will be a one time grant of 1,000 Arkforge for resetting weapon mastery, upgrading your weapon’s power rating, or even bumping an uncommon weapon to epic rarity.
As with Rift and other Trion Worlds games that have gone to Free to Play, Trion Worlds has stated that their focus is “No Tricks, No Traps”. Allowing the new free players to be able to stand the same ground as those who pay for additional services. We reviewed Defiance early on it’s life time and found it to be quite good, despite our original judging that a MMO based on a then unreleased SyFy Tv Show was likely to fail (glad to admit we were wrong about it though). Defiance the TV Show has been renewed for Season 2 and is set to start June 19th.
