The death of the great Leonard Nimoy was a blow to the heart to many fans of Sci-fi, whether they were fans of Star Wars or Star Trek or Lord of the Rings. For those very few who don’t know, Leonard Nimoy played Spock in the original Star Trek that aired in 1966, reprising the role many times though the movies including the latest Star Trek Into Darkness.
In memory of Mr. Nimoy, the team behind Star Trek Online will be creating a memorial to the multi-talented actor as part of their regular schedule update set on March 5th. Executive producer Steve Ricossa stated in the game’s forum that “In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts,” ending with the short-hand Live Long and Prosper, “LLAP.” Yesterday, at least 1,000 players in Star Trek Online visited the in game world of Vulcan to pay their respects.
Nimoy has been a huge supporter of the game, providing voice over work for both Spock and the Narration. Nimoy also has worked on several other video games including the offbeat Seaman for Dreamcast, Civilization 4, more recently he played Kingdom Hearts leading villain in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance (3D).
