Arguably one of the best 3D fighting games ever made, Namco Bandai had announced that SoulCalibur 2 will be receiving an HD update titled SoulCalibur 2 Online. As stated in the name, the game will feature an online play and updated graphics, but this will also include all the features of the original game including the story-driven “Weapon Master” mode.
Of course those who played SoulCalibur 2 will be curious to know if the guest fighters will be returning. Namco confirmed that both the PS2 and Xbox exclusive fighters, Tekken’s Heihachi and Todd McFarlane’s Spawn will be returning to the fight on both the PSN and XBLA. However, the Nintendo Gamecube fighter; Link, will not be joining them for obvious reasons and no Wii U version of the game has been planed.
That can be changed though if fans demand it. GamesRadar talked with the team at Project Soul and asked about a possibility of an updated version of the Gamecube game for the Wii U. While they clarified that they had no intentions on bringing it to the Nintendo console they did state that they are open to the idea of making it as long as fans have made it clear that there is a demand for it. Producer Masaaki Hoshino had even suggested to fans to flood his Twitter feed with the request for a Wii U version. Considering this may be the only way to relive Link’s ass-kicking abilities in a fighting game outside of Super Smash Bros, fans should definitely jump on that request.
Soulcalibur 2 HD Online is set to release on the PSN and XBLA later this fall.
