After a 3 year hiatus, Square Enix will be returning to E3 with a presentation highlighting some of the upcoming games from the publisher.
Well sort of. The presentation will not be a live theatre press conference that we’re used to from the likes of Microsoft, EA, Sony and Ubisoft, but rather a livestream of a video that will have been “produced in advance.” Similar to a Nintendo Direct Presentation. The video will be available in both English and Japanese and is set to premiere at 10 A.M. PT on Monday, June 11th.
Square Enix gave no hints about the line-up they’ll have for the presentation, only saying that “we’ll connect you to the many worlds within our universe.” Which almost sounds like a Kingdom Hearts 3 reference, one of the two biggest games from Square Enix to launch this year, along with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is due for September 18th. However we might get to know more about the upcoming Avengers Project, a new Life is Strange game, the upcoming Dragon’s Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, and just maybe, news on the Final Fantasy 7 remake.
PC Gamer has also announced their presence at E3 with another showing on Monday, June 11 at 3PM PT. PC Gamer promises to have more unannounced games, unrevealed trailers and new footage than the previous years. Expect to see some news from Oculus Rift, Acer, Tripwire Interactive, Stardock Entertainment, Frontier, and Team 17 just to name a few.
Finally we have Sony. Interestingly, Sony has stated that they’ll be “taking kind of a different angle on how we’re bringing it out,” according to CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America – Shawn Layden, and will have major focus on 4 upcoming PS4 titles including The Last of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, Insomniac/Marvel’s Spider-Man and Sucker Punch Production’s newly announced Ghost of Tsushima.
“The last two or three years, to the careful observer, you’ll see that we continue to try to refresh and remake and reignite what we do at the what used to be called a press conference for E3,” Layden explained. “We want to make sure that it’s fresh and reflects the kind of stories we’re telling and the new entertainment we have to give to our fans, not just at the event, but worldwide with … streaming.”
Don’t worry if you’re looking at other major titles to be revealed at the show, as Sony has confirmed some major third-party games and indie titles will also be highlighted during the show. However Sony has announced that there will be no Hardware revealed during the conference.
