We were promised something great for the 25th anniversary of everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog, and Sega did not disappoint. Sega announced Sonic Mania during their 25th anniversary event/concert, held as part of San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
The game showed promise of bringing the blue blur back to his 2D roots, with 3 playable characters (Sonic, Tales and Knuckles) as well as new abilities and a re-imagined/updated look at classic levels. The game is currently set for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and is slated for a 2017 release.
For those looking to get their Sonic fix this year, you’ll have to settle for “Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice” which is due for a September release on Nintendo 3DS. Season 2 of the animated series, Sonic Boom, is currently in production with Cartoon Network.
