Netflix is adding another Video Game property to their list of original shows, this time a new 3D animated series based on Sonic the Hedgehog.
Netflix and Sega announced the new partnership on Twitter Thursday announcing Sonic Prime coming to Netflix in 2022, with Wild Brain and Man of Action attached to the project. WildBrain has been responsible for the Carmen Sandiego series on Netflix, while Man of Action is known for Bed 10, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, and Mega Man: Fully Charged.
According to Netflix Press Release, Sonic Prime will be a 24-episode series aimed at “kids, families, and long-time fans.” The press release also gave a short description of the show: “The fate of a strange new multiverse rests in [Sonic’s] gloved hands,” Netflix said. “Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.”
Sonic The Hedgehog has seen some success jumping to other media, from multiple 2D animated series including The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, and Sonic X, as well as the 3D animated series Sonic Boom, which fared much better than its video game counterpart of the same name. More recently Sonic found success with a live-action film that was much better than any of us expected it to be.
As for what to expect of Sonic Prime? We’ll have to wait as we get closer to 2022.
