It looks like last weeks rumours were true and retired NBA star Shaquille O’Neal will be making a return to video games in Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn. That is if they can receive funding via Indiegogo for the sum of $450,000.
The funding page acknowledged the previous SNES/Genesis title infamy in gaming and states that Shaq Fu 2 will be “what the original game should have been.” A Legend Returns places you in control of the ex-Basketball Player in a beat’em up style game taking on ninjas with “hundreds of moves and battle techniques” with “dozens of cool melee weapons.”
The team behind the game, Big Deez Productions, are former triple-A developers whose team members worked on popular series like Halo, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Alan Wake, Battlefield, Killzone and more. The crowdfunding campaign is set to end on April 20 and at this time of writing is currently sitting on $58,472 USD. The game will come to additional platforms if it reaches varying stretch goal levels: $650,000 for iOS and Android, $775,000 for Xbox 360 and PS3, $960,000 for Vita and 3DS, $1.08 million for Wii U and $1.62 million for Xbox One and PS4.
Also a trailer has been released showcasing the new Over-the-top style that the game is going for and honestly looks great. Lets hope the developers follow their statement and don’t “Fu it up!”
