If you were looking forward to trying out Yakuza 6 demo but didn’t find it on the Playstation Network, you’re not alone. Sega has confirmed that they had removed the Demo after it was found that the full game could be unlocked, allowing players to proceed further than the originally planned Prologue.
“We apologize, but have had to remove the Yakuza 6: The Song of Life demo from the PlayStation Store,” Sega said on Twitter. “We are as upset as you are, and had hoped to have this demo available for everyone today. We discovered that some were able to use the demo to unlock the full game. We’re looking into the nature of the issue. Thank you for your patience.”
It was reported yesterday that Yakuza 6 had an unusually large file size at 36.53 GB, with many assuming that the size included cutscenes, access to multiple mini-games and so on. The demo itself was set to provide the entire prologue of the game, giving players a rather large look at the opening act, plus some time-wasters and the ability to explore one of the locals in the game.
The 36.53 GB however represented the game’s installation file, which allowed some players to continue further into the game than planned. Once the issue was noticed, Sega immediately pulled the demo from the network.
Yakuza 6: Song of Life is set for a April 17th release date, almost a month more than when the game was originally supposed to launch. Sega did not state the reason why the game was held back (we’re assuming to avoid conflicts with multiple Triple A titles that are coming out in late March).
