While the announcement of Year 2 content for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands was a bit underwhelming as it, well pretty much just announced that the studio would continue to provide more content for the game, this weeks detailed announcement at one of the first special missions for Year 2 was much more interesting as it sees the return of one of gaming’s most badass spies – Sam Fisher.
A free Splinter Cell themed mission which will feature the legendary Sam Fisher (with the return of Michael Ironside – who was missing from the last game in the series – Splinter Cell: Blacklist) will launch today. The Splinter Cell content will be introduced into the main game as well as the Ghost War PvP mode, and a new PvE mission, exclusive customization items and new classes for Ghost War.
The Special Operations I mission will have players fight alongside Sam and help him in a high-risk infiltration mission in the fictionalised future Bolivia. The mission will be available in Solo or up to 4 players co-op and is considered the hardest mission available in the game.
“We are all super excited to bring such an iconic character as Sam Fisher into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands,” said Nouredine Abboud, Senior Producer at Ubisoft. “Teaming up with Sam Fisher will require the Ghosts’ stealth, cleverness and tactics…we can’t wait to see the reactions of our players as they face this new challenge!”
Completing the mission will reward players with exclusive items like Sam’s Iconic Sonar Goggles, new night-vision filter, and more. The mission itself will remain in game but the rewards will only be available until the Special Challenge ends on May 16th 2018. Other Splinter Cell style itmes and weapons like the Karambit Knife and a new SC 4000 Prototype assault rifle.
Ghost Wars will also receive the Echelon class, a new assault class available in all PvP modes, which turns your Ghost into a member of Sam’s Fourth Echelon, giving them access to high tech gear including the Sonar Pulse ability that will allow you to see through walls for a short range. Ghost War players will get early-access to this class by using Prestige Points or with the Year 2 Pass.
Finally if you’re not sold on Ghost Recon Wildlands after reading our review, you can play the game yourself from April 12th through 15th as the game will be available on your preferred platform for free. The free weekend update will let you play everything from the Ghost War PvP mode, Predator Mission and Special Operation I.
