The over the top craziness of Third Street Saints will be coming to the big-screen according to Dateline, who reported that a film based on the Saints Row franchise is in development with Straight Outta Compton, The Fate of the Furious and the upcoming Men In Black: International director – F. Gary Gray – attached to direct.
The movie is being written by Greg Russo – whose IMDb page shows he is currently attached to provide the script for the untitled Resident Evil Reboot, a Mortal Kombat reboot and Death Note 2.
The movie is produced by Koch Films, a division of Koch Media, who owns Deep Silver and the rights to the Saints Row franchise. Originally, the franchise was owned by THQ and developer Volition, however Koch Media purchased both the game rights and the studio during THQ’s Bankruptcy auction. In a strange twist of events, THQ Nordic (who acquired the THQ name) then purchased Koch Media and all of its assets.
It’s not clear if the film will follow any of the four main games of the series, however given the action of The Fate of the Furious, we’re sure the over-the-top nature of the Saints will be in good hands if the project can get off the ground.
