According to a report from Buzzfeed News, the beloved Star Wars RPG from Bioware – Knights of the Old Republic, may be getting the big screen treatment. Buzzfeed has advised that this report does come from three sources close to the project however does not reveal their identities.
The report suggests that the script is being written by Laeta Kalogridis, who is best known for her work on Shutter Island and Alita: Battle Angel, she is also working with Netflix on Altered Carbon and the live action Sword Art Online adaptation. The article also suggests that this may be the project that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be working on as part of a new Star Wars Trilogy which should be ready by December 2022.
Knights of the Old Republic takes places 4000 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga, and focuses on the war between the Jedi and Sith. For many, this was also the first time they’ve heard of Bioware and gotten a taste for their epic story telling that would become the company rise to fame with titles like Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. There is plenty of material to work from in this age of the Star Wars Universe so I wouldn’t expect to see a direct adaptation of the classic RPG.
At this time, Lucasfilm and Disney has not confirm this report, as per our policy, we’re keeping this one in the rumour section for now.
